God's Work. Our Hands.

September 8, 2024

I want to volunteer!

“God’s work. Our hands.” Sunday – ELCA’s day of service – is happening on September 8. On that date we will worship together at 10am (with former music director, Shelbie Simmons, joining us), enjoy the last potluck of the season, then joyfully work on service projects together if you have time (note that some projects may take place before church).

Donation Requests:

  • For Lovepacs:  boxes of macaroni & cheese, 5-oz cans of tuna or chicken, and Campbell’s Chunky soup.  Place donations in the shopping cart in the “Living Room.”
  • For Letters Against Isolation:  stationery or cheery notecards that would make a senior’s day.  Look for the donation box in the Narthex.
  • Aluminum cans can be placed by the west door. Your donation will support our 50th anniversary celebration.

Volunteers - If you would like to help, please add your name to the sign-up list online or in the Narthex.

  • Bean Bagging:  help package bags of beans and rice for the Mt. Olive food pantry.  Project leads:  Ellen & David Frost
  • Blood drive:  9am-1pm; sign up beforehand or just show up
  • Letters Against Isolation:  write friendly letters to isolated seniors in nursing homes or recipients of Meals on Wheels.  Project can also be done at home.  Project lead:  Cathie Irons
  • Litter cleanup:  cleaning in the vicinity of RLC before worship.  Project lead:  Becky Schuerman Choi
  • Lovepacs Box Decorating:  transform food donation boxes into a cheerful package!  Use markers to color pictures and write uplifting messages.  Project lead:  Nancy Parker
  • Pet Beds:  tie super-easy fleece pillows for our furry friends.  Project lead:  Sallie Diamond
  • Postcarding:  people with good penmanship can write postcards for Reclaim Our Vote, a non-partisan outreach campaign to contact infrequent voters of color and encourage them to vote.  We’ll be writing to registered Black women voters in Brazoria County about the urgency of voting this fall.  Project lead:  Becky Schuerman Choi
  • Tie Quilts: Help our industrious Cover Girls. Project lead: Marilyn Neer
  • Potluck:  volunteers needed for set-up and clean-up of the last Second Sunday Social of the season.

It isn’t too late to add an idea and/or want to lead a project!  Please coordinate with Becky Schuerman Choi.  Funds are available to assist so don’t be afraid to pitch a new idea!  Thanks to Thrivent for extra help for Thrivent Action Teams!

Plan to celebrate church together on September 8!
