“Rooted in Faith; Growing in Grace”

We are celebrating 50 years of ministry and invite everyone to participate in this momentous milestone! We are celebrating all year but the primary festivities happen in late September:

  • Saturday, September 28 - Attend a concert and program in the evening featuring music directors, both past and present, and music commissioned just for us! Afterwards, enjoy a catered meal, memories and catching up with friends.
  • Sunday, September 29 – Our joyous worship service will feature clergy from our past, including Rev. Arlyn Tolzmann, our first pastor. An open house will follow.

FORMER MEMBERS

Hundreds of people have come and gone from our congregation, but we want to invite as many as possible to join us in our celebrations and reconnect with their former church family.  We plan to mail Save the Date cards very soon but need correct addresses.  If you are in contact with former members, please send their email mail address (preferred), or snail mail addresses to our committee at RLC50Anniversary@gmail.com.

JUNE SERVICE:  LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF

“Serve” is one of the Guiding Principles of RLC, so part of our 50th anniversary commemoration will be monthly opportunities to actively care for our neighbors.

To celebrate 50 years of service, we are inviting the congregation to do service together every month. Between now and June 9, we will be collaborating with Vacation Bible School to support the good work of Lutheran World Relief (LWR).

LWR distributes personal care kits that are specifically designed to help people coping with poverty, disaster, conflict and more.  We will be collecting items for these kits that our campers will assemble during their week of VBS.  The VBS program will teach awareness and compassion for our worldwide community so this project will be one way they can demonstrate global care.  Watch for sales on these specific needs (only NEW items accepted) and bring them to the collection in the Narthex:

  •          Towels:  light-weight bath-size towel (between 20” x 40” and 52” x 27”), dark colors recommended
  •          Soap:  bath-size bars of soap, 3-5 ounces, any brand, in original wrapping
  •          Toothbrush:  adult-size toothbrush in its original packaging (preferred) or multi-packs
  •          Comb:  sturdy, medium- to wide-tooth
  •          Nail clippers:  metal (attached file optional)
  •          Sturdy boxes for storing and shipping.

FUNDRAISERS

Throwing a party requires money. We do have some generous members who have volunteered to cover the costs of some items but we will need funds for food, transportation costs for VIPS, and expenses we may not even know about yet.

Help support this celebration directly with your monetary gift.  Click HERE.

Bring your cans to church – monthly!  RLC’s heavy metal group – The Aluminati – is requesting your participation in our aluminum can collection that will help fund the 50th anniversary celebration.  Please bring your aluminum cans to the west door during the first weekend of every month.  Our delivery driver (Mark Waterman) will load up his truck after church on Sunday and transport donations to the scrap metal recycler on Monday morning.  Cans must be empty and dry and crushing them is helpful.

Please share any fundraising ideas, and in particular, events that would be attractive to people outside RLC!  RLC50Anniversary@gmail.com

The 50th anniversary planning committee members are Rita Fischer, Bill Fisher, Jan Frum, Craig Hildebrand, Gayle Lind, Adam Schroeder, Becky Schuerman Choi, Beth Smith, Sue Willette.
